Cameroon achieved the elimination of leprosy as a public health problem (defined by the WHO as a prevalence rate of less than 1 case per 10,000 people) at the end of 1998. But there is a lack of facilities to care for those suffering from the after effects of leprosy, while the provision of services for nomadic peoples (so-called pygmies) and displaced persons is said to lag behind.
