コロンビアにはアグア・デ・ディオスというハンセン病患者が強制隔離されていた地域がある。1870年頃、最初に約40人の患者が送り込まれ、1872年には患者が家族を別れを告げて隔離地域へ渡るための橋（「嘆きの橋」現在はコロンビア国家遺産）が作られた。

The town of Agua de Dios in Colombia was once a place of isolation for people affected by leprosy. Initially, around 40 patients were sent there around 1870. In 1872, a bridge was built that patients crossed after they had said goodbye to their loved ones. It became known as the Bridge of Sighs and today is part of the country's national heritage.
