マダガスカルは2006年にWHO（世界保健機関）が定めたハンセン病患者が国レベルで人口1万人あたり1人未満という制圧目標を達成。2005年チュレアール地方の保健所、2007年にはモラマンガ市のアンボヒトランジャビディー病院付属病棟を訪問。全26床あるこの病棟の入院患者の大半がハンセン病患者だった。

Madagascar achieved the elimination of leprosy as a public health problem (defined by the WHO as a prevalence rate of less than 1 case per 10,000 people) in 2006. These photos were taken on visits to the city of Tulear in southwest Madagascar in 2005 and to a hospital in Moramanga, 120 km from the capital Antananarivo, in 2007.
