Republic of Malawiマラウイ共和国

Malawi achieved the elimination of leprosy as a public health problem (defined by the WHO as a prevalence rate of less than 1 case per 10,000 people) in 1994. About 230 km southeast of the capital Lilongwe in Balaka district is a commmunity of people affected by leprosy called Utale 2. Its origins trace back to 1946, when French Catholic missionaries established a leprosy sanatorium there.
