The city of Bergen in Norway operates the Leprosy Museum. The museum is located in the former St. Georges Hospital, founded in 1411 and the city's oldest leprosy hospital. It was at its busiest in the 1840s, when it had as many as 179 inpatients. The last two patients died in 1946. In addition to the museum, Bergen is also home to a branch of the National Archives that contain the National Leprosy Register, and to the study of Dr. Armauer Hansen, who discovered the bacillus that causes leprosy.
