アメリカ・ルイジアナ州には「カーヴィル」というかつての国立ハンセン病病院の跡地がある。この病院は１８８４年に、アメリカ国内で唯一ハンセン病患者が入院できる施設として３３０エーカーの広大な敷地に設立され、1999年に閉鎖されるまで多くのハンセン病患者が隔離され、治療を受けた場所である。施設の中にはハンセン病の博物館がある。

Carville in the U.S. state of Louisiana is the site of the former national leprosarium of the United States. Spreading across 330 acres, it was established in 1884 as the only in-patient facility in the United States for treating leprosy. It closed in 1999, having treated many people during its century-long history. There is a museum of leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, on site.
