I am the artist Katsuhiko Hibino. Let’s think about leprosy. For people in my generation,
there is still a lot of misunderstanding and discrimination against leprosy. There is
information for everything, and public opinions and individual thoughts are formed on that
information. But for any generation, we don’t know where that information is coming from
or if it is true, and now, with so much information appearing so quickly on the internet,
people have many different opinions. So we have to check carefully so that we can tell
which opinions are correct. Information is constantly being updated for every generation.
I think the worst are stereotypes and fixed prejudices, because they get stuck in place
and become set values. Values should constantly change. Through my pictures, my
expressions, as well as art, I can learn that there are many ways of looking at things, and
what I saw in one way yesterday looks different today. I think the appeal of art is that it
shows you different perspectives on the world. I hope you will break down your set values
and stereotypes, to form new values so you can THINK NOW LEPROSY.
